A Circle Within a Circle: VOLA at STILL LIFESTYLES

ACTIVATION

‘A Circle Within a Circle’ is an exhibition dedicated to a single object, the VOLA tap, designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1969 for the National Bank of Denmark and still in production, essentially unchanged.

The exhibition unfolds in four movements inside the STILL LIFESTYLES showroom:

– The Object: the tap alone on a plinth, gallery lit, read as sculpture rather than as a fitting.
– The Idea: a mixer conceived to hide every working part in the wall, part of a total design in which the same hand shaped the building, the interior and the fitting. His furniture makes the same case, the actual pieces where we can, and image where we cannot.
– The Spectrum: one form across VOLA’s colours, grey and orange in 1969, fifteen hand painted colours today.
– The HAMMAM room: live water, VOLA showers running. Jacobsen is a fitting icon for a design week anywhere in the world.

STILL LIFESTYLES is a bathroom boutique in Cape Town for those who seek architectural elegance without the noise. Not a showroom of fixtures, but a gallery of considered objects, where the bathroom is treated as a sanctuary and every piece has earned its place.
