Beloved May and The Salon

The Art of Reference: A three-day open reference library, which runs from 9- 11 October 2026, housed at The Salon in Parktown North.

Guests are invited to move through a curated collection of books — spending time with them, sitting with them, finding the pages that matter to them. 

Daily open times will be between 11am – 4pm.

Each day features a different curator in conversation: a creative practitioner sharing their personal book collection, the references that have shaped their work, and the role of physical inspiration in a digital world.

Three days, three distinct voices, three lenses into their creative processes.

Beloved May is a creative agency and literary collective founded by Phola Gumede and Menzi Dimba.

Dedicated to building intimate, intentional spaces around books, creativity, and culture.

The Salon is a creative atelier in Parktown North. Johannesburg.

It is home to Lulama Wolf, fine artist, and Sithasolwazi Mona, creative director, who together use it as a base for their creative thoughts and endeavours.
