Crippledmdn

For three days, Crippledmnd opens the doors to its world in a studio in New Centre, Selby, Johannesburg. 

The Ruffled Doll Dress, Soft Teeth Bag and a selection of chokers will be on display and available to buy throughout the activation, alongside graphic tees and other pieces while stock lasts. The studio will also hold Crippledmnd’s films, photographs, sketches, patterns and other pieces of the process. Every day will sound different.

We start with the archive, screening Crippledmnd films and bringing out work from the past.

Invite only. Friends, creatives, people close to Crippledmnd and the Design Week team. Music, drinks and a conversation around the work.

Crippledmnd is an independent South African fashion brand for the misunderstood. I started Crippledmnd because I wanted to make things that felt like me, things that are strange, feminine, angry, soft, uncomfortable and unapologetic all at once. The brand is about self-expression and the parts of ourselves that we are often taught to hide or make smaller. I work mainly through fashion, accessories, imagery and whatever else feels necessary to tell the story. My work is heavily influenced by femininity, punk, Blackness, girlhood and the world around me. I work alone, making everything from the idea to the final piece. Crippledmnd is not about fitting into a certain idea of what fashion should be. It is about making space for the people who have never really felt like they fit anywhere.
