Dwela Presents, ANATOMY OF AN OBJECT

ACTIVATION

What does it actually take to make an object, a piece of furniture?

The finished object is often the least revealing part of the design process. Behind every product is a trail of sketches, experiments, prototypes, failures, refinements and decisions that rarely make it into the public domain.

For Johannesburg Design Week, Dwela opens up that process — taking visitors from the first sketch and early ideas, through prototypes and material experiments, to the final object that makes its way into production.

Rather than focusing only on the finished product, ‘Anatomy Of An Object’ explores what changed, what didn’t work, what was learned, and how an idea becomes something that can be made, used and lived with.

The exhibition will be open 8–10 October throughout Design Week.

On 10 October, 12:00–13:30, join Dwela Founder and Creative Director Joey Khuvutlu for a talk and open Q&A exploring the realities of product design, prototyping and manufacturing — accompanied by bubbles, good conversation and a closer look at the work behind the work.
