Groove Biennale III: The Post-Eco (Sound) System Installation by DORMANTYOUTH

Conceived and run by DORMANTYOUTH, a creative and cultural practice run by Thelma Ndebele, The Post-Eco (Sound) System is an installation depicting an optimistic post-apocalyptic interior/exterior landscape as it comes back to life through performance. This physical build of a queered DJ Booth that spatially extended across a culturally significant, music event space serves as an anchor for the festivals participation in Design Week South Africa’s 2026 event programme, inviting Joburg’s alternative scene to experiment with alternative architecture.

The staging and setting is collaboratively designed, then performed in, by DORMANTYOUTH and BUJIN as a Night Embassy activation, evidencing the cross-disciplinary, playful nature of Johannesburg’s nocturnal ecosystem. VNJ Ball / VNJ Bodega co-curates the afterparty DJs activating the dancefloor installation until dawn.

As a Night Embassy Ambassador, DORMANTYOUTH creative directs and co-produces Groove Biennale. Past and present Project Partners include: Jägermeister x Night Embassy, Prince Claus Fund, Circuit Mixers by Pro Helvetia.
