Inomusainkosi: Reimagining the Discarded

Inomusainkosi: Reimagining the Discarded is an experimental wearable art installation by Zimbabwean multidisciplinary artist Panashe Mafoti. The activation presents a selection of sculptural garments and textile works created from discarded and reclaimed materials, including VHS tapes, second-hand clothing, plastics, paper, CDs and found objects.

Presented as an immersive installation, visitors will encounter fashion as sculpture, material experimentation and storytelling rather than simply as clothing. The installation explores themes of waste, resourcefulness, consumption and African futurism, drawing from Zimbabwean experiences while challenging conventional representations of African fashion.

Through transforming overlooked materials into expressive wearable forms, the activation invites audiences to reconsider what is considered valuable, beautiful and worthy of preservation.
