The House Is Dreaming: Molteni&C in Dialogue with Space, Matter and the Imagined
ACTIVATION
For this year’s Design Week South Africa, Molteni&C opens the doors of its Cape Town Flagship Showroom (@m_and_c_cape_town) for one evening of creative exchange and dreaming.
Founded in 1934, Molteni&C is a leading manufacturer of indoor and outdoor furniture, kitchens and bespoke furnishings. Part of the Molteni Group, the foremost independent Italian group in high-end furniture, the brand has long championed craftsmanship, research and architectural innovation, collaborating with internationally renowned architects and designers including Gio Ponti, Herzog & de Meuron, Foster + Partners, Jean Nouvel and Jasper Morrison.
From its beginnings as an artisan workshop to its pioneering role in industrial design, Molteni&C has cultivated a legacy of creative exchange across disciplines, cultures and generations. Today, with a presence in over 100 countries, the brand continues to bring Italian design heritage into dialogue with contemporary perspectives. It is in this spirit that the Cape Town showroom becomes a platform for local creative voices, opening its spaces to encounters between technology, architecture and craft.
THE HOUSE IS DREAMING
Molteni&C in Dialogue with Space, Matter and the Imagined
Throughout the evening, the familiar order of the showroom is gently disrupted by a series of interventions in light, moving image, form and material, inviting visitors to encounter domestic settings in unexpected ways.
Experimental audiovisual collective Public Holiday brings projection, analogue CRT technologies and digital experimentation into dialogue with the showroom’s architecture. Alongside moving images, the hand-woven textiles of Leila Walter, made from natural fibres and rescued remnants, explore material memory and touch, while the sculptural paper works of MiaBella Paper introduce a playful interplay of form, light and shadow.
Cape Town-based sound artist and bespoke speaker designer Jaywalker will shape the evening’s sonic atmosphere, while boutique Robertson Winelands producer Silverthorn Wines welcomes guests along the canal with its Cap Classique.
As the sun sets over the canal, come dream with us a little.
