CRITICAL ENDANGERED ACTIVATION BY FRAUKE STEGMANN

The Activation

Through a series of collaborations and ongoing activations, I want to tell the multifaceted story of habitat loss affecting the Critically Endangered Cape Flats Sand Fynbos. In an increasingly fragmented proto-habitat, which greatly increases the risk of local extinctions, underappreciated land areas – such as indigenous remnants, commons, roadside verges, servitudes for power lines and undeveloped land on farms – have emerged as unexpected heroes and vital defenders of the Critically Endangered Cape Flats Sand Fynbos. These areas create essential corridors that allow the movement of animals and the dispersal of plant seeds between conservation areas.

I am very excited to announce the first collaboration in this series of activations with type designers Henrik Kubel and Scott Williams @a2_type @a2swhk at @designweeksouthafrica 2025, a national celebration of ideas, experimentation, and creative exchange. 

Design Week brings together designers, makers, thinkers, and brands redefining progress, proving that innovation can be restorative, not extractive; collaborative, not competitive; and that true progress only matters when it’s shared.
