SUMMARY:CRITICAL ENDANGERED ACTIVATION BY FRAUKE STEGMANN
DESCRIPTION:The Activation\n\n\n\nThrough a series of collaborations and ongoing activations\, I want to tell the multifaceted story of habitat loss affecting the Critically Endangered Cape Flats Sand Fynbos. In an increasingly fragmented proto-habitat\, which greatly increases the risk of local extinctions\, underappreciated land areas – such as indigenous remnants\, commons\, roadside verges\, servitudes for power lines and undeveloped land on farms – have emerged as unexpected heroes and vital defenders of the Critically Endangered Cape Flats Sand Fynbos. These areas create essential corridors that allow the movement of animals and the dispersal of plant seeds between conservation areas.\n\n\n\nI am very excited to announce the first collaboration in this series of activations with type designers Henrik Kubel and Scott Williams @a2_type @a2swhk at @designweeksouthafrica 2025\, a national celebration of ideas\, experimentation\, and creative exchange.  \n\n\n\nDesign Week brings together designers\, makers\, thinkers\, and brands redefining progress\, proving that innovation can be restorative\, not extractive; collaborative\, not competitive; and that true progress only matters when it’s shared. \n\n\n\nSet in New Rail Alphabet\, type face design by Henrik Kubel & Scott Williams. \n\n\n\nFrauke Stegmann X Scott Williams and Henrik Kubel/A2TYPE \n\n\n\nwww.studiofraukestegmann.com / @fraukestegmann

SUMMARY:DESIGN AS AN OPTIMISTIC ACT BY NOW NOW / EXHIBITION
DESCRIPTION:The Activation\n\n\n\nDesign as an Optimistic Act – is our first physical exhibition\, hosted as part of Design Week South Africa – inviting you to experience the imaginative potential of African architecture across rural villages\, townships\, cities\, and international sites.\n\n\n\nThis tactile exhibit offers an immersive journey through the NowNow Competition’s 40 Honourable Mentions\, collected across four thematics over the past two years\, each rethinking how we live\, learn\, and shape space.\n\n\n\nRooted in the notion of “Design as an Optimistic Act\,” the exhibition plays on the layered meaning of “now now\,” a phrase blending urgency\, presence\, and the playfulness of African time. Visitors are invited to step inside\, touch\, feel\, and discuss ideas that reveal not just the design\, but its intention\,  why these competitions and places matter.\n\n\n\nHosted by the team behind Pot Plant Club and Babbi Deli & Bar on Bree Street\, the event opens their space to new intersections of design\, as we look ahead – we share a collective space for remembering futures\, reclaiming the optimism and energy of African cities\, and affirming that the next great idea can come from Khayelitsha\, Gaborone\, Langa\, or just down the road.\n\n\n\nOpen the Design Week South Africa map \n\n\n\nWhere: Pot Plant Club\, 215 Bree Street \n\n\n\nWhen: 24 October\, 18:00 – 22:00 \n\n\n\nBookings: Open to all.
