SUMMARY:'MAPPING MEMORIES'\, INTERACTIVE INSTALLATION & CREATIVE WORKSHOP
DESCRIPTION:The Activation\n\n\n\nMore than just a landscape of places\, Joburg is a receptacle for the memories of millions of people. ‘Mapping Memories\,’ developed by writer Cate Otto and professor and graphic designer Rozina Vavetsi\, consists of two parts:\n\n\n\n• An interactive installation: a large-scale map of the city invites visitors to identify personal\, meaningful locations\, write a vivid memory\, and pin it on the map\, creating a colorful collective experience of Joburg’s vibrant essence. As more memories are added\, the map transforms into a living archive that becomes richer with every participant.\n\n\n\n• A creative workshop: memories are explored by combining writing\, design\, and crafts to delve into the textures\, tastes\, smells\, colors\, and sounds of remembrance. Through verbal and visual expression\, the workshop aims to create zines that showcase the collective and evolving portrait of the city’s identity and encourage participants to reflect and connect through the power of shared memory.\n\n\n\nBoth events are free\, but RSVPs are required for the exhibition opening and the workshop.\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe Brand\n\n\n\nJoining their creative forces\, writer Cate Otto (University of Johannesburg) and professor and graphic designer Rozina Vavetsi (New York Institute of Technology and University of Johannesburg) have developed the ‘Mapping Memories’ project\, celebrating Joburg’s contagious energy and vibrant spirit.\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nWhere : AA Gallery\, 27 Boxes\, Melville \n\n\n\n\n\nOpen the Design Week South Africa map \n\n\n\n\n\nWhen: Exhibition Opening\, Thursday\, 9 October from 6pm – 10pm \n\n\n\nRegister to attend. \n\n\n\nWorkshops\, Saturday\, 11 October and Sunday\, 12 October from 11:00 to 13:00 (Space limited to 15 people in each workshop.) \n\n\n\nRegister for Saturday\, 11 October here. \n\n\n\nRegister for Sunday\, 12 October here. \n\n\n\nInteractive exhibition\, Friday\, Saturday\, and Sunday (9\, 10\, and 11 October) from 11am to 4pm \n\n\nExhibition\, Joburg\, Workshop

SUMMARY:AD OPEN STUDIO WITH ARTHUR DLAMINI / STUDIO VISIT
DESCRIPTION:The Activation\n\n\n\nPhotographer Arthur Dlamini will open his studio to visitors throughout Design Week. Renowned for his striking portrait photography and powerful images of musicians\, Dlamini’s work captures human emotion\, love\, and identity with depth and honesty. His open studio offers a rare opportunity to step inside his creative space and experience his practice up close.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Brand\n\n\n\nThe process of discovering oneself through love is the heartbeat of Arthur Dlamini’s work as a visual artist.\n\n\n\nThe lens is his talisman – which opens up a world where he captures the sacred journey of the human experience. Armed with curiosity and a unique perspective of the Divine\, he navigates the domains of creating memory by exposing the authenticity of human emotion. \n\n\n\nHis source of inspiration comes from his soul\, his connection to music and the conversations he shares with everyday people. One cannot separate the cry for collective liberation and personal freedom from an Arthur Dlamini original. In a contemporary art space that often celebrates technique over message\, Dlamini has managed to challenge the standard by using the complexities of human emotion as his creative compass. Each piece brings with it a reverence for compassion\, vulnerability and honouring one’s divinity.\n\n\n\nWhere: AD Studio\, 44 Stanley \n\n\n\nOpen the Design Week South Africa map \n\n\n\nWhen: Friday – Saturday\, 9:30 – 17:00 & Sunday\, 9.30 – 15:30 \n\n\n\nOpen to all \n\n\n\n@itsarthurdlamini
